CALM Associate Programme

Course Overview

The CALM Associate Programme packages our integrated practice model, our whole-organisation approach, our more than twenty years of clinical, academic and practice expertise in the field of behaviour support – and embeds it directly into your organisation!

The CALM Associate Programme offers you the opportunity to develop an internal resource able to flexibly and independently deliver the CALM Core Theory Course within your organisation.

The value of having a CALM Associate lies not just in the cost savings but in the strategic advantage it brings your organisation. Your CALM Associate can function as an internal consultant available to advise, mentor and support local services as well as contribute to the development and evaluation of policy initiatives. A CALM Associate is also able to customise the CALM Core Theory Course – integrating key organisational policies and procedures and core organisational values and objectives into course delivery.

What can a CALM Associate bring to your organisation?

A key aim of the CALM Associate Programme is to ensure that CALM Associates develop an understanding of the research evidence on the most effective strategies within the field of behaviour support.

The programme provides participants with an in-depth knowledge of key policy and practice issues, which will enable a CALM Associate to respond knowledgeably and sensitively to the concerns of course participants. Critically, it enables them not just to provide training but provide expert mentoring to individual staff and teams in the design, delivery and evaluation of services. The CALM Associate programme is designed to enable participants to undertake and further develop their role as an internal resource according to the needs of their organisation.

The CALM Associate Programme Structure

The overall programme invites candidates to explore a sequence of modules and a series of key themes that underpin how CALM conceptualises how we should respond to behaviours that challenge and why. The course commences with an induction workshop designed to enable participants to make connections with other programme participants as well as explore the requirements of assessments and the mechanisms in place to support their studies.

6 Modules

Each module has been structured around a specific topic, the approach to learning will include identified essential reading, online recorded PowerPoints, work based reflective practice and online tutorials.

Assessments include written essays, reports and reflective accounts. Throughout the assessment process participants will be required to examine their organisational context in relation to each topic and develop an outcome focused report of recommendations which can be utilised within their organisation in their future role as a CALM Associate.
